United Kingdom setup

Use this guide for a venue operating in United Kingdom. Complete the shared first-run setup, then review the local decisions below.
| Foundation | Review in Settings → Identity |
|---|---|
| Country | United Kingdom |
| Local currency | GBP; confirm the venue’s actual selling currency |
| Time zone | Europe/London |
| Working language | English; language does not choose tax rules |
Configure tax by what you sell
Section titled “Configure tax by what you sell”Set the venue’s registration status and tax identity, then classify products and channels using the business’s agreed VAT treatment. Catering, hot food and take-away supplies can require different treatment; do not assign a single rate to every item just because the venue is a café.
HMRC’s retail-scheme guidance describes schemes for accounting for retail VAT and the role of daily gross takings. The appropriate method is a business accounting decision; Brindola’s order data and register close supply records for that process. HMRC retail schemes.
Receipts and reconciliation
Section titled “Receipts and reconciliation”Test an eat-in order, a take-away order and a mixed basket. Check the tax breakdown, supplier identity, discounts and any service charge. For a company customer, collect the invoice details before issuing the document.
At close, retain the session’s counted cash and investigate differences against the relevant payments. A service continuing after midnight keeps its configured business-day treatment; avoid comparing calendar-day terminal settlement with a different POS date range without reconciling the scope.
Card terminals and delivery
Section titled “Card terminals and delivery”Use the terminal approved for the venue’s merchant account. A standalone terminal is operated separately: wait for approval, then record the corresponding card option in Brindola.
There is currently no UK platform list in Brindola’s regional offering. Do not assume a UK delivery provider is connected merely because the general delivery module exists. Agree an intake integration before planning to retire a provider tablet.
Before service
Section titled “Before service”Have the accountant review the representative receipts and the records they expect at close. Keep a recoverable backup separately from the working terminal and retain the records required for the business’s VAT scheme.
Official guidance review
Section titled “Official guidance review”Sources linked above were reviewed on 2026-09-13. These are setup instructions, not a substitute for confirming the treatment of your business’s specific supplies. Recheck the authority’s guidance when tax or document requirements change.
Continue with the opening checklist and register close.
