Confirm the fiscal receipt arrangement first
Section titled “Confirm the fiscal receipt arrangement first”Decide the approved method by which this venue issues fiscal receipts before selecting equipment or starting live sales. Malta’s tax guidance distinguishes tax invoices, fiscal receipts and fiscal cash registers. A normal thermal printout is not automatically an approved fiscal receipt. Malta tax invoice and fiscal receipt guidance.
Review the business’s registration type, required receipt fields and equipment or software approval with its accountant and the responsible authority. The Brindola country setting does not itself approve a fiscal setup, and this guide does not describe a Maltese fiscal-device driver.
Set up the catalog and documents
Section titled “Set up the catalog and documents”Enter the venue’s legal identity and registration details. Confirm the tax category for each type of sale, then print representative receipts and a company invoice through the agreed arrangement.
Keep the document number and original transaction traceable when handling a refund or correction. Reprinting a POS receipt is different from correcting the fiscal record.
Payments and delivery
Section titled “Payments and delivery”Configure payment options to match the actual terminal and cash drawer. Check both the bank result and the recorded sale for card payments.
The Malta offering lists Bolt Food through the order intake add-on, with Wolt coming soon. Review the account mapping and how platform payments enter Brindola. A prepaid delivery should not be collected again when it is handed over.
Closing and retention
Section titled “Closing and retention”Keep the close records required by the chosen fiscal arrangement alongside the corresponding POS records. The authority’s VAT FAQ describes keeping fiscal receipts, register readings and accounting documents. Confirm the applicable retention with the person responsible for the records. Malta VAT FAQ.
Official guidance review
Section titled “Official guidance review”Sources linked above were reviewed on 2026-09-13. These are setup instructions, not a substitute for confirming the treatment of your business’s specific supplies. Recheck the authority’s guidance when tax or document requirements change.
Continue with the opening checklist and register close.
