Business date

trading day · business day rollover

The business date is the day a sale is booked to for reporting and the close, which is not always the calendar date: a restaurant that trades past midnight counts a bill closed at one in the morning as part of the evening it began.

The rollover hour

A venue sets the hour at which a new business date begins. Six in the morning is the usual choice. Everything closed between midnight and that hour belongs to the previous date. Without it, a bar's Friday is cut in half at midnight and every report has to be stitched back together by hand.

What is stamped with it

Every order carries the business date it opened on, and the day's close (the Z report, the cash count, the aggregate sent to a backoffice) is per business date rather than per calendar day. Register sessions, tips and staff totals follow the same date.

Opening hours are a different fact

The rollover hour is not the closing time. A kitchen may shut at eleven and the bar book a one o'clock tab against the same day. Opening hours describe when the doors are open; the business date describes which day a sale belongs to.

How Brindola does it

The rollover hour is a venue setting; every order and every close carries the business date; dayparts and holidays are marked against it; reports draw a closed day as a gap rather than a zero. Nothing on the order path refuses a sale outside stated hours.
